Didier Drogba returned to Champions League action with Chelsea against Schalke as Group G began at Stamford Bridge.Chelsea Vs Schalke highlights.
Filipe Luis started for Chelsea for the first time since his summer move from last season’s runners-up Atletico Madrid in a side showing two further changes from the one which beat Swansea 4-2 last Saturday, with Ramires and Willian also starting.
What a fantastic end to a thoroughly entertaining game! After a great second half in which they caused the hosts plenty of problems, Schalke fully deserve the point gained this evening, whilst Chelsea, who seemed to struggle in the final third of the pitch as the game went on, will be extremely disappointed that they were not able to put the game to bed earlier on. Both Drogba and Fabregas had great opportunities to do so, but the Schalke defence remained strong and disciplined throughout and they will be delighted that they were able to win themselves an important point.
FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 1-1 SCHALKE
62′Goal Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
GOAL! Schalke are back in the game, completely against the run of play. Fabregas loses possession deep inside the Chelsea penalty area, allowing Draxler to burst forward on a fantastic run. He then sends the ball over to Huntelaar, who cuts in to the right before firing a fantastic shot past Courtois and into the bottom right corner of the net.
11′ Goal Cesc Fàbregas
GOAL! After 11 minutes of Chelsea dominance, the hosts are ahead. Fabregas slides in to dispossess Meyer in the centre of the pitch before running into the Schalke penalty area where he receives the ball once again from Hazard before slotting it past Fahrmann. The Schalke players aren’t happy at all, as it seems that Fabregas fouled Meyer in the build-up to the goal.
