Hopefully the second half will pick up and, if Coutinho’s excellent run is a precursor of anything, Liverpool will attack with renewed vigour.

Stoke’s record against the red half of Merseyside is poor though, having not netted in 21 years in the league at Anfield. Having said that, if there was a time to be playing Liverpool, it is now, and Hughes will hope that if his side can avoid the errors which tarnished their game against Burnley, the Potters can secure all three points.
