Daley Blind’s first-ever goal for Manchester United saw the Red Devils secure a dramatic 2-2 draw away to West Brom at the Hawthorns on Monday night, though Louis van Gaal’s side remain winless on their travels in their last six games.West Brom vs Manchester United 2-2 all goals video.
Stephane Sessegnon opened the scoring for the hosts early on, with Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom racing down the flank and squaring for the Benin international, who fired a ferocious first-time shot past David De Gea and into the top corner.
At half-time Louis van Gaal introduced Marouane Fellaini in place of Ander Herrera and within minutes the much-maligned Belgian had equalised, chesting down a floated pass from Angel Di Maria – who later came off injured – before unleashing an unstoppable effort that flew past Boaz Myhill.
United’s joy was short-lived, though, and the Baggies reclaimed the lead soon after via a bright counterattack, with Saido Berahino racing onto Chris Brunt’s through-ball and nervelessly placing his shot beyond De Gea and into the bottom corner.
Robin van Persie smashed a shot against the foot of the post as United sought a response and they finally found a breakthrough when Blind stroked a loose ball into the bottom corner late on, though Van Gaal’s men were denied the chance to record three back-to-back league wins for the first time since December 2011.
87′Goal Daley Blind
GOAL!!! BLIND EQUALISES! They have deserved it for all their pressure and this us yet another fine finish. Rafael’s cross is stabbed clear by Lescott, but Blind is there to curl the ball home from the edge of the area.
66′Goal Saido Berahino
GOAL!!! BERAHINO MAKES IT 2-1! Manchester United are ripped apart as Brunt’s through ball fins Berahino in acres of space, and the striker can bring the ball into the box before curling around De Gea. More defensive woes for the Red Devils.
48′Goal Marouane Fellaini
GOAL!!! FELLAINI EQUALISES! What an impact from the substitute, and it’s all his own work. The midfielder brings down a left-wing cross before turning Lescott and powering a drive into the top corner. What a time to get your first Manchester United goal!
The teams are making their way out onto the pitch for the second period, with United having sent out Fellaini to warm-up during the break. The former Everton man may be thrown on sooner rather than later.
Berahino’s pace has caused problems for the hosts while Dorrans has been excellent at the heart of the midfield. I’ll be back in ten minutes to see if the Baggies can hang on for victory.
The half-time whistle goes, and it is West Brom that have the lead through Sessegnon. United have struggled to maintain any control despite having more chances, and Van Gaal may have to change something at the break to get back into this one.
8′Goal Stéphane Sessegnon
GOAL!!! SESSEGNON OPENS THE SCORING! Superb work down the right-hand side from the hosts as Wisdom shows great pace to get away from Di Maria before playing the ball into Sessegnon on the edge of the of the box, and the former Sunderland man blasts into the top corner. Irvine leaps into the air on the touchline, and West Brom have the lead.
