Tottenham Hotspur vs AEL Limassol 3-0 match Highlights all Goals Video
Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the group stages of the Europa League following a 3-0 victory over AEL Limassol at White Hart Lane.
Harry Kane saw a penalty saved by Andres Romero early on, but he put Spurs into the lead with a composed finish on the stroke of half time.
After the break, Paulinho fired in a second, before Andros Townsend’s penalty sealed a comfortable 5-1 aggregate win.
Find out how the action unfolded below.
7.41pmAndros Townsend has also been the subject of reported interest from QPR, but his manager has said that he is going nowhere. The England international was in good form for the club before his injury last season and many were tipping him for a spot in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.
7.44pmThe players are out on the pitch and we are just moments away from the start of the match.
1 minKICKOFF! We are underway at White Hart Lane!
3 minIt’s been a decent start from the visitors who have seen plenty of the ball early on. They look confident in possession, but are yet to trouble the Spurs defense.
6 minPENALTY TO TOTTENHAM! Spurs are gifted the chance to take an early lead, as Naughton gets onto a long ball over the top and is clattered by Fegrouche. The goalkeeper is down in a heap and in need of treatment and it looks as if he will be unable to continue.
8 minThere are worrying scenes here at White Hart Lane, with AEL’s keeper still down. There was no doubt that it was a clear penalty, but we are now waiting to see whether the referee will send him off or just show him the yellow card.
12 minSUBSTITUTION: Fegrouche has now been stretchered off the pitch and receives a yellow card in the process. Romero is on in his place and his first piece of action will be to face a penalty from Kane.
14 minMISSED PENALTY! What an introduction to the game for Romero! He saves Kane’s spot kick with his first touch of the ball! It was a poor strike from the forward, who fired his effort straight down the middle, allowing the keeper to make the stop with his feet.
16 minThat let off should serve as a huge boost to the visitors, who would still have needed to score two goals tonight even if Kane had scored his penalty. There is a spring in their step now and they will hope to capitalize on a slow start from Spurs.
19 minCHANCE! Romero has already made one important stop from Kane this evening and he denies him again. It comes as the striker picks the ball up just inside his own half, before charging towards goal. He then gets to the edge of the box and fancies his chances, but his powerful effort is struck too close to the keeper who beats the ball away.
22 minIt’s all very even at the moment, but Spurs look much more of a threat when they come forward. They are almost in behind when Davies tries to latch onto a pass into the box, but it is just too far ahead of the Welshman, who is beaten to the ball by the keeper.
26 minSardinero has the visitors’ first chance of the evening, but after the ball breaks to him kindly just outside the box, he can’t keep his effort down and fires the strike high over the bar.
28 minDown the other end it’s the home side who work a chance on goal as Kane gets in front of his man to meet Naughton’s cross from the right, but his header ends up taking a deflection and heads behind for a corner.
31 minAside from Kane’s penalty and his effort that was saved by the keeper, there really hasn’t been too much in the way of goalmouth action. The hosts are firmly in control at this stage and if they showed some more penetration going forward then a goal is not too far off.
33 minDembele shows great skill to drive past a couple of midfielders, before looking for the run of Paulinho in front of him. He doesn’t find his teammate, but the ball rebounds back to him kindly and he takes a touch before driving an effort just wide of the post.
37 minKane has looked the most likely player on the pitch to find the net this evening and he comes close again when Lennon finds him inside the box, but after working some space to shoot he fires his effort over the bar.
39 minSpurs work another opening, with Townsend fed the ball quickly from a free kick wide on the right. The winger then cuts inside onto his left foot before unleashing a strike that flies over the top. The hosts have got into some good positions, but so far this evening the end product is not there.
41 minYELLOW CARD! Bebe is the second AEL player to pick up a booking this evening for a late challenge on Townsend.Follow @Football7x24
