Goals from Winston Reid, Diafra Sakho and Morgan Amalfitano boost the Hammers as Brendan Rodgers’ side slump to another loss seven days after Aston Villa triumphed at Anfield.West Ham vs Liverpool highlights.
My name’s Ben Cullimore and it’s been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you today. Until next time, goodbye!West Ham vs Liverpool 3-1 all goals video.
As for West Ham, not only will they be delighted with the three points but they will be very pleased with the manner in which they were won. Their new signings, particularly Valencia and Diafra Sakho, looked superb, and their emphasis on quick counter-attacks continually caused Liverpool a plethora of problems. Next weekend, they face Manchester United at Old Trafford, and after today’s performance they will be full of confidence about their chances of picking up another big victory there.
West Ham started the game superbly and that’s exactly how they finished it. A frantic opening few moments in which the Hammers went 2-0 up after only seven minutes gave them the perfect platform to build on, and they continued to cause a shaky and disorganised Liverpool defence plenty of problems throughout the game. The visitors, clearly missing the influence of Sturridge, struggled in the final third of the pitch and as such go home empty-handed and in desperate need of a re-think ahead of next weekend’s Merseyside derby.
88′Goal Morgan Amalfitano
GOAL! West Ham have surely won themselves all three points now! A poor header by Mamadou Sakho gifts the ball to Downing and the Englishman bursts forward before sending a lovely through-ball into the path of Amalfitano, who toe-pokes the ball into the back of the net to put the hosts 3-1 up.
26′Goal Raheem Sterling
GOAL! Liverpool have pulled a goal back through a terrific strike by Sterling! Henderson sends a great cross in to Balotelli, who wonderfully brings the ball down before setting up Sterling to fire a rocket of a shot into the back of the net.
7′Goal Diafra Sakho
GOAL! Unbelievable! We’re only seven minutes into the game and West Ham are already 2-0 up! Liverpool lose possession and Sakho picks up the ball on the right wing. He’s then given far too much time by Moreno and he steadies himself before chipping the ball beautifully over the head of Mignolet with a wonderful cross-cum-shot. What a terrible start by Liverpool!
2′Goal Winston Reid
GOAL! What a start! With less than 90 seconds on the clock, West Ham have taken the lead. Downing whips a free-kick in towards the back post where Tomkins is there to head the ball into the path of Reid, who then knocks the ball into the back of the net for his first goal in a year.
